Reality Bites?
During
my testing, I used Raven Software's latest 3D shooter, "Soldier of Fortune", to
judge the gaming performance of the MM-700. Everything sounded
great from this 2 speaker setup, the firing of projectiles sounded very precise
and the subwoofer produced wonderful sounding explosive blasts. The MM-700
was also able to play musical compilations from the game without any
hint of static or interference. I did find that the speakers need to
be directly pointed towards oneself in order to experience the full range
of sound. Even though a 5 speaker setup may be more tempting because
of its surround sound, the
performance of these Monsoon's will make you think otherwise.
As far as general
performance is concerned, listening to my Dru Hill CD provided crisp
sounds and harmonic beats.
Like I said before, the Subwoofer may be a bit too boomy for some users, especially when it comes to
hip-hop music, but in the end these speakers look great and sound
loud.
Surviving The Monsoon
Monsoon has done an
outstanding job with the MM-700. The
excellent workmanship combined with great pricing makes the MM-700 a
desirable package for most audiophiles out there looking for dedicated PC speakers. These
great performing speakers certainly fits the bill when it
comes to gaming
and musical needs. Priced at $149, the Monsoon MM-700 seems
like a bargain that's worth running all the way to the bank.
Pro's and Con's
Pro's: A visually
enticing set of speakers. Great quality and workmanship.
Great sounding performance whether you play music or games.
Con's: Subwoofer
performance may be a little too boomy for common users. A 5-speaker
system may be more enticing for some.
