Weapons
The ability to
use the proper weapon at the right time is key to becoming a dominant
player in Unreal Tournament. The
dual fire modes that comes with each weapon offers a highly strategic
form of game play in comparison to other 3d shooters. The ability
to use the arsenal with a certain degree of knowledge will help any
player rank higher and score higher.
It's all about common sense when selecting the right weapon,
would you ever use the sniper-rifle in a small room when a bunch of
rocket launchers locked on to you?
Probably not...
Translocator
This
is basically a personal teleport device that introduces new strategic
aspects to the game as a whole. The
use of Translocator is only possible if servers who opt to use it.
Through
the use of its primary fire, a beacon is fired out to help transport a
player to wherever it lands. When
the beacon is properly placed, pressing the secondary fire will enable
you to instantly appear to its location.
You
can also kill your opponents by tele-fragging them.
This is accomplished by making the beacon touch your opponent and
teleporting into their face.
Impact
Hammer
The
Impact Hammer is an oxygen gun that shoots out compressed air to inflict
damage on opponents. This is a weapon of last resort, and is used when
all other weapons run out of ammo.
This glorified oxygen tank does not require any ammunition so you
can blow all the hot air you want.
Holding
down the primary fire button will load the Impact Hammer with air. By touching another player with the weapon, the Impact
Hammer releases a powerful burst of air powerful enough to kill with one
hit. This is the ultimate
insult weapon because of this one-shot capability.
For all of you campers out there, this weapon comes in handy
while standing in front of teleport or high traffic area.
Players
will also be able to perform accelerated jumping techniques with the
primary fire mode as well. All
you need to do is load up the Hammer, point it to the ground and jump at
the same time you release the air.
This action is performed similar to that of a rocket jump in
Quake.
The
Impact Hammer's secondary fire mode shoots out a rapid burst of air that
dishes out a lesser degree of damage.
The secondary mode of fire can also deflect shots if your timing
is correct. This is a
hard feat to accomplish and wouldn't be a practical thing to attempt in
a middle of a firefight.
Chainsaw
This
chainsaw is also a weapon of last resort that is only available through
a mutator option. In layman
terms, this is a feeder weapon, but if you want a cheap laugh or two
this is the tool to use.
The
primary mode of the chainsaw pushes the weapon forward in a stab like
function. If you actually
get the chance to touch an opponent, you’ll be able to inflict some
heavy damage….whoopee...too bad there are no trees to cut in this
game.
The
Chainsaw's secondary mode enacts a dangerous swinging motion.
This mode is good for chopping heads off, that's if you live to
do it. . Don't waste your
time with the chainsaw. You’re
better off looking for other weapons.
The
Enforcer
The
Enforcer is the default weapon you use to enter a match.
Additionally, two Enforcers can be used together; therefore,
doubling the damage rate. This
is a useful feature because Unreal Tournament actually provides a
default weapon with a considerable amount of firepower and punch.
In
primary mode, the Enforcer provides a medium rate of fire with a high
degree of accuracy. The
reverse situation occurs when the Enforcer is in secondary fire mode,
the firing rate increases, but the aiming will be spotty at best.
If you have no other choice but to stick with this weapon, it
would be best to keep the Enforcer in secondary mode to because of the
increased fire rate it provides.
