sun.jpg (19231 bytes) The Game Den is hosted on a Sun Microsystems Enterprise 250. The Sun Enterprise 250 server runs dual UltraSparc II 300MHz processors with 2 Megs of cache, has over one Gigabyte of RAM, with dual power supplies running RAID-5 on all Game Den data and RAID-1 on the root partition for the Operating System, Solaris 7. The unit cost about $30,000.
sun2.jpg (22363 bytes) This photograph was taken after the packaging material was removed from the Sun server. In the background there are several rows of APC Netshelters, which will be our Sun server's new home. The Netshelter keeps the server nice and cool as well as dust free.
sun3.jpg (32184 bytes) This is a close-up view of the Sun internal hard drives. Of the 6 drives, 4 are 36.4 Gigabyte hard drives, operating at 10,000 RPM with a 6.4ms seek time. These 4 drives are used for data only, and run in a RAID-5 configuration.

The other 2 drives are 18.1 Gigabyte hard drives, operating at 10,000 RPM with a 6.4ms seek time as well. These drives run in a RAID-1 configuration (mirrored) and is used for the Operating System only.
sun4.jpg (24425 bytes) This view shows 12 sticks of RAM, or a total of 1,088MB of RAM, dual UltraSparc II 300MHz processors (the beige boxes above the RAM), and the large surface area of the motherboard.
sun6.jpg (19751 bytes) RAM used within our Sun Enterprise 250 server are manufactured by Kingston Technologies. Currently, there are 8 sticks of 128MB and 4 sticks of 16MB for a total of 1,088MB of RAM! Notice one of the several 5" fans in the background
sun7.jpg (27722 bytes) Another photograph of the Random Access Memory in our Enterprise 250 server. All RAM used error correcting (ECC) RAM.

We're very happy with the performance of this web server. It should last us quite awhile as we're no where near pushing its limits. The Tech Zone and a few other affiliated sites will soon be house by it. This should improve the performance of The Tech Zone a lot.
